Photo: Tim Whitby/Getty ImagesĪlexei Sayle is coming to the Fringe for only the second time in his 37-year career ( 2-11 August, Underbelly Med Quad, 6.45pm) while John Shuttleworth brings his ‘Last Will and Tasty Mint’, and no doubt some silly songs to the Gilded Balloon ( 12, 13 August, 6pm).

Among the household names jetting in for a short stint at the Fringe this year are Sue Perkins, who will present a lunchtime hour of witty observations and Mary Berry anecdotes (23 to 27 August, Pleasance Courtyard, 1.45pm) John Bishop,who is ‘Winging It’ in a new work in progress (12-25 August, Underbelly, 2.40pm) show in an unusually intimate venue and Frankie Boyle, who is back in the modestly named ‘Prometheus Vol 1’ (5-9, 20-24 August, EICC, 9.20pm) in Edinburgh’s biggest venue.
